- 8 cups of day-old bread, cubed (preferably challah or brioche)
- 1 cup of pecans, chopped
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of maple syrup (optional for extra sweetness)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and cube the bread.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
- Combine the cubed bread with the custard mixture and let it soak for 15-20 minutes.
- Fold in the chopped pecans.
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish, pour in the mixture, and drizzle with maple syrup if using.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Day-old bread works best for soaking.
- Feel free to add other nuts or toppings for variation.
