- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup red wine (optional, but recommended)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Pasta of your choice (spaghetti is traditional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Prep ingredients: chop onion, garlic, carrot, and celery.
- Heat olive oil, sauté onion, carrot, and celery for 5-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef, brown for 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste, cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes and red wine, simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30-60 minutes.
- Cook pasta in boiling salted water until al dente.
- Combine cooked pasta with sauce, toss gently.
- Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.

- Red wine is optional but enhances the flavor.
- Simmering longer improves flavor depth.
